- Ein Weiterbetrieb wäre eine erhebliche Belastung für Steuerzahler*innen. Erneuerbare Energien sind wirtschaftlich das weitaus bessere Mittel zum Klimaschutz. Sie sind wesentlich kostengünstiger und gleichzeitig risikoärmer.
Atomkraftwerke sind eine ständige Bedrohung für unsere Sicherheit, produzieren Unmengen an hochradioaktivem Müll, der uns noch über eine Million Jahre belasten wird, und sind darüber hinaus deutlich klimaschädlicher als erneuerbare Energien. Die aktuelle Studie „Ökonomische Aspekte der Atomkraft“ des Deutschen Instituts für Wirtschaftsforschung und der Technischen Universität Berlin belegt zudem klar, wie ungeheuer kostspielig diese Hochrisikotechnologie ist. Sie ist weder wirtschaftlich noch konkurrenzfähig zu kostengünstigeren Alternativen wie den erneuerbaren Energien.
Atomkraft wird immer teurer
Atomkraft war, ist und bleibt eine der teuersten Stromerzeugungstechnologien. Die Kosten zur Produktion von einer Kilowattstunde Atomstrom sind bis zu viermal so hoch, wie die Kosten einer Kilowattstunde Wind- oder Solarenergie. Da Atomkraft wirtschaftlich nicht wettbewerbsfähig ist, ist Atomenergie bei Bau und Betrieb der Kraftwerke immer auf hohe staatliche Subventionen angewiesen. Für Steuerzahler*innen und öffentliche Haushalte ist Atomkraft wirtschaftlich ein Milliardengrab. In den USA wurden wegen fehlender Wettbewerbsfähigkeit zwischen 2009 und 2021 zwölf AKW vom Netz genommen, obwohl diese noch genehmigte Laufzeiten zwischen 10 und 20 Jahren hatten.
Während Solar- und Windkraftanlagen über die Jahre immer günstiger geworden sind, sind die Kosten für Atomkraftwerke über die Jahrzehnte stetig angestiegen. Die Kostenversprechen der Atomenergie haben sich somit als falsch erwiesen. Im Vergleich zu den 70er Jahren stiegen die Baukosten teilweise um das Fünffache und die tatsächlichen Baukosten liegen deutlich über den prognostizierten Projektkosten.
Auch der Rückbau der Atomkraftwerke dauert Jahrzehnte und kostet Unmengen an Geld. Aktuelle Schätzungen gehen von einer Milliarde Euro pro Atomkraftwerk aus. Auch die Kostenrisiken für die Endlagerung des Atommülls werden vom Staat getragen.
Laufzeitverlängerung wäre Steuergeldverschwendung
Eine Laufzeitverlängerung würde enorm viel Geld verschlingen. Das Beispiel Frankreich zeigt: Um einen Reaktor zehn Jahre länger laufen zu lassen, fallen im Schnitt zusätzliche Kosten von 1,7 Milliarden Euro pro Reaktor an und das allein dafür, dass zwingend notwendige Sicherheitsüberprüfungen durchgeführt und die daraus folgenden Umbaumaßnahmen umgesetzt werden.
Erneuerbare sind kosteneffizienter
Wirtschaftlich behindern Atomkraftwerke den Ausbau der Erneuerbaren, denn jeder Euro für Brennstäbe oder zur Lagerung von zusätzlichem Atommüll fehlt für Investitionen in Wind und Sonnenenergie. Atomstrom ist bis zu viermal so teuer wie Strom aus Wind und Sonne. Die Kosten für die Energiewende, inklusive Speicher- und Netzausbau, liegen insgesamt deutlich unter denen für Atomkraft. Jeder Cent für Atomkraft ist eine Fehlinvestition in eine nicht wettbewerbsfähige Hochrisikotechnologie und sollte besser in unsere nachhaltigen erneuerbaren Energien investiert werden.
